"Ascending
River" 4.11 ~ 4.25, 2007 Gallery IHN is pleased to announce the solo exhibition of Youn Hee Paik opening reception on April 11th- 25th. Recent exhibitions of Youn Hee Paik's work were exhibited in Triton Museum of Art, Santa Clara, California, Staller Center for the Arts, Stony Brook, New York and in several major cities. For this exhibition, the artist presents six-installation art works that are attached on a 5m ceiling and fifteen paintings. The nature lover, Youn Hee Paik puts imaginary in work references to nature as water, sky and light, which has a spiritual significance. She appreciates the universe drawing a relationship between man-made and natural elements. The interesting tension between the open space and architectural lines bring together a series of opposites between light and darkness, day and night. Youn Hee Paik's sky paintings are filled with motifs, which have both personal and universal meanings. Light appears as a mysterious radiance behind the deep blues, blacks and reds, recalling the glow of thousands of distant stars, which make up the milky way or it may take the form of numerous sharp points of light piercing the night sky. The universal atmosphere makes reference to the spiritual beyond to the light of heaven and spirit. Youn Hee Paik's work is about transformation and transition between material and spiritual world. The characteristic of Paik's large art works is that they are installed on the ceiling and not on the walls. The speculators lay back and observe the art works that are attached on the ceiling, by giving the speculators the substance of her mystical vision. The massive universal space will provide a sublime experience to speculators with a vision in discovering a universe that is filled within splendor and glory.
