11Hong, Soo yeon graduated from Hong ik University and Pratt Institute, then she participated in The First Chang Dong program by The Museum of Contemporary Art. The Imagery Hong creates seems arbitrary or capricious, as her paintings are composed of different tones of poured acrylic paint. She clearly manipulate the pours in such a way that their forms remain distinct, and sets up delicate intersections between layers of paint that shows she is in control.
In this exhibition, Hong shows the series of 'Casting Call, Sashay, and Gray' which made a more clear and contrast shape than she used to created. We can easily be pulled into a dreamlike vision through her paintings. The images based on subjective impressions, but Hong is seemingly steering them toward a sort of low-key biomorphism, a derivation of form from nature.
Hong's work remains calm and peaceful. There are no violent or rough movement but only obscure shape and movement tells us the meaning of her inner world. As the shapes created in necessity by looking at fortuity, our everyday life might similar to this obscure shape which would go whither.
