Dream of Africa:
The canon of art is creation and the creation is born from freedom. Ultimately, the art is the action that is carried out in inside of giant boundary called freedom. However, modern day fine art divides and limits itself to strong 'genre-borders' that artists are restricted from being innovative.
In this exhibition, I want to show a whole new category of my work called "fired painting". And by showing them, I am going to visually show and present the limitless capacity of clay media and the true mean of fine art that I try so hard to make people comprehend. The "fired painting" is the result of my long research and experiment, which possesses various expressions of colors fired in extreme high temperature, enabling them to overcome the artificiality of man made objects. The tiles are fired in 2282 degree Fahrenheit and it is impossible to control the status of firing even a ceramist like myself. This creates such a depth in colors that is not possible on canvas and the tiles are also endowed with durability that can endure the hazardous weather. My "fired paintings" are not only complete with picturesque and formative ability; they also satisfy the trend and sensibility of design art. Also they are ideal material for architectural means which provide excellent commercial and practical aspects by allowing the freedom of display for every individual taste.
I started working with clay in the time that limited ceramic within the boundary of function and decorative art, however, by proving the true capacity of clay from today on, I would like to take this opportunity as my first show-case of proving the limitless possibility of clay and the answer to the next era of fine art.
