Park, Hong-Chun : Imagecity - Seoul

On the photographs of Park, Hong-Chun, movements are erased by the extended exposure for thirty minutes or more and only the images of building structures are left. In his "To Alice" series, amusement park illustrates the photography's attribute to capture only the surface of objects. It renders a futile space where only the outer space exist and subsistence is gone as in a movie set in Hollywood. An amusement park is the space of dream and fantasy, yet without subsistence. His works where speedy movements are vanished demonstrate one aspect of the modern society of today. His waiting with patience are reflected in the technique of extended exposure and fineness of his photographs. Moving objects in extended exposure don't get recorded or only their overlapped image gets left, and only the non-moving objects get to exist in heavy tone. The peculiar colors of his works emit heavy, intricate, non-realistic mood.

Newly introduced works, "Seoul 1-3" are images of Seoul city where Park experiences and feels about. 10,000 cuts of stores on the street, moving cars seen from a bridge, trees on the street are put together as a collage and completed with a huge scale(3m x 4.5m). Park shows portrait of human being in the big city, and a sign board of stores or cars' plate number are like individual's ID number. Also "APT" series are photographs of apartment lights at night and composed with small 1,225 cuts. Where his "To Alice" and "Traces" series accumulate time in one image with long-exposure, this new series accumulate numerous images of short time and space together.
