Hong, Kyung-Hee
Incuvation Period - December 5 - 19. 2001

The difference with craft and sculpture is practicability, and from a viewpoint of that, craft is more usable than sculpture which weights on artistic part.
However, at her works, these meanings don't matter any more. Because her works can transform tables, vases, and consoles easily, even though it seems to be a sculpture. This is the reason why her works are called to be "metal works" not "craft".

In the past, her works have called 'metaphorical transformation of metals'. It means that the materials and functions of the metals are sculptural, but they emphasize the metaphorical qualities while hiding the characteristics of metals. In this exhibition, she tries to add to the spatial concept. The 2-dimensional mirrors of her works are connection with 3-dimensional space where we belong, then it makes a new space.

Hong, Kyoung-Hee shows that her works can be a motif -not just craft or sculpture- to interchange with spectators through new experience of space.
