Yang Ju-hae
Spaceless space.0.Timeless time

September 15 - September 29, 2000

The artist, Yang Ju-hae has been working to unify the 'Image and Text' through geometric simplification. The various meanings of her works are revealed in combined forms of installation of paintings and musical effects.

This exhibition, titled "Spaceless space.0.Timeless time", includes two different projects. One is the paintings on quilt intended to connect her theory to the colour and sound, the other, the installation for unifying the act of visitors and the thought of the artist. At the center of the room, she geometrically lays out the route of  the Buddhist theme, "Life is eternally circulating". Following the route on the floor, visitors experience the labyrinth without end or beginning. The Buddhist chant accompanied by the sound of flute is resonating in the room and at the same time, a voice reads out numbers which signify the social security number. This labyrinth therefore invites visitors not only in the world of Buddha, but also the world of meditation in which they could experience the boundary between dream and reality. In the following installation, the paintings on quilt act as the instruments of an orchestra, the coloured marks echoing the sound of the flute.

Her inner world is like a transparent labyrinth which has been closing, opening and repeatedly moving towards the infinite. The artist intends to show this inner world through her geometric forms, and the 'Image and Text' will finally be unified by the combined presentation.
